The story begins from the summer of the 1950s. This is a usual day as every day in the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico ( USA). Everyone was working as they do every day, and then the lunch session began. Every scientist gathered on the lunch table. Suddenly, famous Italian researcher Enrico Fermi asked a question. This question made everyone speechless.
Fermi said," We humans have discovered so many galaxies in the visible universe. Even though they are billions of galaxies which are yet not known. And there are so many stars like the Sun are there in the galaxies and also there are so many solar systems so many planets revolving around the stars. Looking at this vastness of the universe the probability of the existence of another life form is increased. This means that the existence of life on earth that we believe is unique should be common in the whole universe.
If it is possible where are those people?
This famous question is later called The Fermi paradox.
This paradox is yet not solved. So many scientists all over the globe give various theories and hypotheses to solve this paradox one of such hypotheses is called The Zoo hypothesis.
This hypothesis was given by the M.I.T's {Massachusetts institute of technology} radio astronomer John ball. This hypothesis is known as one of the best explanations of the Fermi paradox.
Imagine, you are standing in front of a cage of tigers in a zoo. Have you thought about why the government made Zoos? The answer is just to give a habitable life to the animals which are either endangered, vulnerable or wounded.
We provide them with shelters and a habitable zone as they get in forests. But we never directly interact with them inside their cage.
Zoo hypothesis explains that we are not alone in this universe. There are so many life forms in this universe and they are extremely advanced than us. Even though we are constantly trying to communicate with other life forms, we have not yet succeeded because these life forms are extraordinarily advanced and they don't want us to meet them.
This may be because they want us to evolve naturally. They don't want any extraterrestrial factor to affect our social and cultural evolution.
Those advanced alien civilizations may be living on some other planets which are extremely far away from Earth; they are sitting there and looking over us.
John ball explains in the other variant of zoo hypothesis, that this earth is nothing just a laboratory for these advanced alien civilizations. Humans are here for their research and experiments.
All the extraterrestrial cases ever happened on the earth are because of those civilizations who came and looked over what we are doing and trained us to evolve in every field.
For better understanding let's take the example of COVID-19 pandemic. Has anybody ever thought that any virus will harm humanity so harshly?
One thing for sure that complete humanity is going to change after this pandemic. Our medical and scientific facilities will change after this pandemic for sure and we will evolve ourselves to tackle such future situations.
You must be thinking that if aliens exist while they aren't meeting us.
This answer is also given by the zoo hypothesis. 'Zoo hypothesis' further explained that, those alien civilizations may be waiting for the day when our Science and technology evolved to a certain limit.
Or they may be waiting for the day when we create a rocket or something and we launch to visit their planet.
In simple words they want us to meet them.
But we haven't met any of them yet and also this is just a hypothesis.
A Gentle Reminder:- Pentagon has officially released an Alien sighting video
